Information

Run in the opposite direction in past years, this year we have made a few course changes and spectators will enjoy a new perspective on this well-known viewing point. Cars will negotiate a 90 degree right onto tarmac off a gravel bridge. Both sides offer great viewing 300 metres of viewing pleasure!

QUINNY’S COMMENTS

Haven’t run this way before, it’s flat out to the turn right at T.  It’s always fun from gravel to tarmac. Getting the car squared up will be a priority here as the bridge edge is on the outside. You can lose time getting back straight. The lads will show you how it’s done! My pic is down by the creek.

RALLY AUSTRALIA’S PHOTO TIPS

Our pic for the best pictures would be to stand on the inside on the Western side. This will allow you to use a wide-angle lens for that iconic sliding away shot. Down close to the creek will be good too. Frame carefully and show some of the road to add context to the shot. Sharpness is your friend and you could be seeing a bit of back light so you may want to add a stop of extra exposure for the first run. The second run through the cars should have great side lighting.

Information

Reverse direction this year means better viewing! Cars come down the stage from a sweeping set of challenging bends to a decreasing radius fast turn
right at T onto bitumen, and they will need to get it right to accelerate up the road. This a fast approach and the viewing will be fantastic.

QUINNY’S TIP

Overcooking it here can cost you the lead. This corner is slippery at the best of times and gravel sideways onto tar is can be tricky! There will be plenty of late braking here, so the action should be tops!

RALLY AUSTRALIA’S PHOTO TIPS

Last year this point ran the other way. This time some great shots are possible in two places. The northern side with a long lens can will get some great side lit pictures as the cars approach. The inside of the corner will get cars sliding onto the bitumen with a nice rural background. Watch for depth of field – use F8 or more and to capture those rocks use at least 1000th of a sec or more shutter speed.

ACCESSIBILITY

No wheelchair or impaired mobility access due to banks on side of roads to access point. Accessible to other disability attendees.

Information

A large viewing area at Talarm Hall up on the embankment. Another transition from Gravel to bitumen past the hall. Cars will come down Welch’s Creek road at maximum attack then set up for the left on to Rhone’s Creek road and then exit on the gravel with a great left bend and great and fantastic high speed viewing.

QUINNY’S TIPS

“Tyres will be key here as the cars are already 18.5 k in the stage and they will be worn and hot. There is plenty chance to see great sideways action as the cars get back onto gravel. The WRC cars are awesome here!” Expect plenty of sideways action.

RALLY AUSTRALIA EXPERT PHOTO TIPS

Bitumen or Gravel, both? Longer lenses can compress the image as cars approach and also a good place to get those long lens shots, Don’t wait long as the cars kick up dust! Cars are travelling fast so high shutter speeds are needed to maintain sharpness. Make sure you have spare batteries. Great elevated shooting.

ACCESSIBILITY

No wheelchair or impaired mobility access due to banks on side of roads to access point. The competition is in opposite direction to 2017, Accessible to other disability attendees.

Information

Raleigh Raceway hosts many go kart and drifting events and the number one attraction each year is the Kennards Hire Rally Australia Special stage. Cars use the mixed surface track as a race and rally stage. You will be able to see the cars complete the entre stage and top action is guaranteed as the world’s best put on a masterful display of controlled driving. Cars transition from bitumen to gravel, reminiscent of rally cross and this makes for some exciting sideways action, especially over the finish line. A great spot for families to enjoy all the rally action with shade, food and drink. Watching the action from WRC live is a bonus on the big screen. Get there early to get the best spots to view all the action. Plenty of fun and entertainment for the whole family.

QUINNY’S TIPS

If you are a bit like me and like to put on a show, then this is the place to see the action! This circuit is fantastic. Tight and technical, it rewards the brave especially at the second last corner and the best will show you how the “Scandinavian flick” works. Muck it up and you might demonstrate the “Alaskan roll” – not ideal! This is the place to cheer loudly and make sure us Aussie competitors can hear you!

RALLY AUSTRALIA EXPERT PHOTO TIPS

Raleigh is a great place to grab many different shots. Longer focal length, 200-500mm lenses suit, and you can get wild sliding shots, distance shots and shots as cars enter and leave your field of view. The morning session has the sun behind you. The Golden rule of rally photography is to get the pictures on the first run- the cars have stagers in between and you cannot guarantee that they will return! High shutter speeds are best to avoid camera shake. Back up your SD cards each day too.

ACCESSIBILITY

Suitable for all including wheelchairs, parking reserved in the area on the top of a natural amphitheatre. With amenities.

Information

The Destination NSW Super Special stage is run on one of the most picturesque peninsulas on Australia’s east coast. Run on bitumen, the stage features multiple locations for viewing with the spectacular Coffs Harbour and Ocean as a backdrop. Cars will jump and slide around showcasing the best of the best in World and Australian rallying. A stage not to be missed! Plenty of food and drinks available. There is a public bar and VIP Corporate facility at the Deep Sea Fishing Club. Merchandise on sale. The drivers will be faster again after getting the feel for the stage the previous night. Entertainment for the whole family.

QUINNY’S COMMENTS

“You can win or lose here. Again! On tarmac the WRC cars slide around a lot on their gravel spec tyres and it’s made harder with the wind blowing sand on to the stage up the back near the jump. No problem, just back it in! I get plenty of cheers here so come on cheer on the best! All the locals are welcome so bring the kids down and show them the best drivers in the world. Expect faster times from the drivers as they are well in the “Zone” after todays stages.

RALLY AUSTRALIA EXPERT PHOTO TIPS

The DNSW Super Special is fantastic to get those shots with people in the background. This is best done one the southern side of the bridge. Pan shots work well at this location and its great if you can get some water in the background too. Its crowded so pick your spot early. The setting sun should be behind you for great shots and choose a fast shutter speed to avoid blurry shots. Wide angle lenses here will show the atmosphere.

ACCESSIBILITY

Accessible point, on grass, parking reserved, with amenities and raised viewing area for wheelchairs next to grandstand.
