NOT content only to be an official at Rally Australia, Mark Scott from Bowraville has had an unforgettable experience as a guest at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
Mark won a weekend at the AGP in a draw among the 1500-plus officials at Coates Hire Rally Australia last September.
He enjoyed flights, accommodation, tickets and a pit walk courtesy of Rally Australia and the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport.
Mark was greeted by CAMS President Andrew Papadopoulos.
But despite the excitement of attending an F1 event for the first time, his rally passion came to the fore when he met Hyundai WRC factory driver and Coates Hire ambassador Chris Atkinson at the Coates Hire stand.
Rally Australia Event Manager David Catchpole said Mark’s grand prix prize was a way of demonstrating appreciation of the contribution of all officials.
“Mark was the lucky one but he symbolises the effort, enthusiasm and camaraderie of our invaluable officials team,” Mr Catchpole said.
During 2013, Mark Scott worked in Bowraville selling tickets and souvenirs, while also assisting the Lions Club with catering.
In 2011, he was an ambassador for Bowraville and helped with car parking.
Now, after experiencing two FIA World Championship events in six months, Mark says he’ll be back for more on the Coffs Coast on 11-14 September.
Registrations for 2014 Rally Australia officials are now open and an application form can found on the official website, rallyaustralia.com.au.
