(Event release, 17/6/2013) ORGANISERS of the Australian Off Road Championship event that will be part of the Coates Hire Rally Australia weekend next September are close to finalising a course at Glenugie, north of Coffs Harbour.
A team of local enthusiasts familiar with the region’s roads and forest tracks has spent four months mapping a 55 kilometre loop course, which competitors in round four of the Australian Off Road Championship will tackle on 14-15 September.
The event will be run mostly on private land, on terrain the organising team says is reminiscent of the legendary Kempsey International events, which used to be held a couple of hours’ drive south of Glenugie.
Organisers have been working the New South Wales Forestry Corporation to conduct course inspections and confirm final details and hope to finish the task next month.
Clerk of Course John Paterson said the process of planning the off-road route had resulted in an excellent working relationship between the organisers and Forestry Corporation NSW.
Community consultations also had been undertaken and residents had said they were looking forward to the Australian Off Road Championship and the benefits it would bring.
The Glenugie event will give the Australian Off Road Championship a chance to showcase its spectacular cars alongside the FIA World Rally Championship, which will stage its 10th round at Coates Hire Rally Australia on a separate course in the Coffs Coast region over the same weekend.
Anyone purchasing a World Rally Championship Event Pass will also receive a pass to the Australian Off Road Championship spectator points as a bonus. Tickets to the Australian Off Road Championship only can be bought separately at www.rallyaustralia.com.au from tomorrow.
There are also many opportunities to be involved in the event as a Rally Australia official. Officials with all levels of skill and experience are needed.
Registration to be an official can be made at www.rallyaustralia.com.au.
