MALCOLM Wilson, one of the leading figures in the FIA World Rally Championship, is back in Australia this weekend but there’s not one of his Ford Fiesta RS rally cars in sight.
The British-based M-Sport founder is at Mount Panorama to see the two factory Bentley Continental GT3s his organisation built and runs contest the Bathurst 12-Hour race.
Wilson has visited Australia many times as a driver and then team owner, most recently for Coates Hire Rally Australia on the Coffs Coast last September.
But this is his first visit to The Mountain.
“This is an incredible circuit. From all my trips to Australia I’ve never been around Mount Panorama before, but, wow,” he told Speedcafe.com.
“I’m pleased that we’ve got this opportunity with Bentley. You hear a lot about Bathurst and when you see it you understand why.”
It’s a fleeting Down Under trip for Wilson, however. M-Sport’s next appointment is WRC Rally Sweden, starting on Thursday.
