(10/12/2013) THE Hyundai I20 WRC that Chris Atkinson will drive in Rally Australia next September has been unveiled at the new team’s launch in Germany.
Apart from finally seeing the car undisguised and in the form in which it will debut at Rallye Monte-Carlo next month, the biggest news accompanying the launch was Shell sponsorship and that the Korean maker will complement the rally car with a future range of performance road vehicles.
The team will be known as the Hyundai Shell World Rally Team after a multi-year title partnership with Shell.
A blue/grey and red scheme featuring Shell Helix-Ultra logos adorns the i20 WRC for lead driver Thierry Neuville and the second to be driven at designated events by Atkinson, Dani Sordo and Juho Hanninen.
Hyundai used the launch to announce that a new ‘N’ logo – that features on the bonnet and doors of the rally car – will be used to symbolise the firm’s high performance technology on both the i20 WRC and mass-produced high performance cars.
The ‘N’ designation is inspired by the firm’s Namyang research and development centre in Korea that has collaborated with Hyundai Motorsport on the development of the i20 WRC.
“Linked directly to the company’s renewed involvement in WRC, ‘N’ brings together Hyundai Motor’s technology and innovation with the learning from motorsport to provide a new experience for customers,” Hyundai said.
