COFFS Harbour City Council will be a sponsor of Rally Australia events in 2015.
Councillors meeting on 17 December adopted a recommendation to continue sponsorship of the Australian round of the World Rally Championship (WRC; the Australian Rally Championship also runs with the WRC) and a round of the Australian Off Road Championship (AORC) that have been organised by Rally Australia since 2011, a Council news release said.
“Major sporting events, including spectator events, continue to be an important economic driver for regional areas and the competition for these events continues to be strong,” General Manager Steve McGrath said.
Next year’s event is proposing to use the Coffs Coast Sport and Leisure as the main venue, with the precinct hosting the service centre (park) and entertainment associated with the event.
The statement said Organisers of the 2015 events also hoped to provide street-based events in partnership with Council to increase engagement with the business and Coffs communities.
These would be held over the three nights of the Rally Australia event period at different locations.
