Rally Australia Classic Cup
Run over Friday and Saturday of the rally weekend the Kennards Hire classic cup showcases the classic rally cars of yesteryear. Open to CAMS classic cars, The Rally Australia classic cup is sure to bring out the legendary cars that have inspired the current WRC and ARC.
Iconic cars like the BDA Escort with its high revving Cosworth twin cam engine, are crowd favourites. These cars only weigh 900 kilos and with 275+ horsepower can compete with AWD later day cars and these cars are some of the most entertaining that you will see on the Kennards Hire Rally Australia Stages. Expect to see:
- Ford Escort mk1 and Mk11
- Alfa Romeo
- Torana L34
- Datsun, 180B, bluebird, Stanza,
- Audi Quattro Group B Replica
- And many more
The Classic Cup cars relive a strong classic rally heritage in the Coffs Harbour region that once hosted the world famous Southern Cross Rally, the precursor of the World Rally Championship. Thousands used to line the stages to see the world’s best drivers and the tradition in Coffs Harbour continues.
Lifelong memories are still vivid of seeing factory Escorts, Datsun’s and Mitsubishis battling it out on iconic Coffs Harbour roads. The roads of the region are most suitable with long flowing corners and testing forestry sections.
The Group B era of the 1980’s was one of the most memorable in Rally history and none other than the Audi Quattro Group B AWD 600HP rally car was one of the best examples and we hope to see up to two of these enter the classic cup.
