Officials Overview

Officials at Rally Australia

Putting on an event like Rally Australia keeps a small group of people busy full time from one year to the next … and a very large group of people busy for one week as the cars, crews, spectators & media all come together in Coffs Harbour for the final round of the 2019 World Rally Championship.

Events like Rally Australia do not happen unless we have the cooperation and assistance of more than 1,000 officials, who not only help run the event but also are vital to providing a welcoming atmosphere, showcasing our country and the Coffs Coast region and sending visitors home with good impressions.

With so many officials needed there is a wide variety of roles available, many of which require no previous experience while others, such as Medical and Recovery teams and scrutineers, who inspect vehicles for safety and compliance with technical regulations, require specialised equipment and/or skills.

To give you some idea of the range of positions available they include roles in areas such as:-

  • Public Safety
  • Stage Closures
  • Special Stage Operations
    • Stage Commanders
    • Safety Officers
    • Control Officials
  • Service Park Operations
    • Regroup Control Officials
    • Facilities Management
    • Car Wash Operations
    • Refuel Management
  • Vehicle Fleet Operations
    • Courtesy Car Drivers
    • Fleet Management
  • Officials Coordination
  • SOS Radio Operations
  • Environmental
  • Results
  • Ticketing
  • Timing Support
  • WRC TV Support
  • Ceremonies

When you are registering not all of these options will be available – many of the senior roles, such as Stage Commanders, are already filled but if these are roles that might interest you for future events let us know … while they require years of experience and varying amounts of training everybody started somewhere and we will always try and place people in roles that could eventually lead to more senior positions – if you are interested.

If a role you are particularly interested in doing is not listed as an option please select “Specialist Role” and send us an email at [email protected] and we will see what we can do …

We do have some policies to help us manage the pool of volunteer officials – you can see a summary of these here or the full policy document can be found HERE
