TRAFFIC AND ROAD CLOSURE INFORMATION

(Event release, 11/9/2013)  ROAD closures and special event clearways will start to take effect in Coffs Harbour tonight, Wednesday 11 September 2013, as final preparations are made for Coates Hire Rally Australia, starting tomorrow.

The Coffs Coast is again hosting a leg of the World Rally Championship and as a result there will be significant impact on roads in the area including changed traffic conditions, road closures and other special event arrangements.

Special event conditions will come into affect from 7.00pm with the closure of Harbour Drive in central Coffs Harbour for the duration of the event from Wednesday through to 6am Monday morning 16 September, 2013.

Rally organisers, Coffs Harbour City Council and NSW Government agencies have developed a traffic management plan that will deliver a world-class event with minimal disruption.

Brelsford Park, Coffs Harbour will be the Rally Hub where preparations will take place as well as the nightly ARMOR ALL Super Special Stage and teams’ Service Park.

The Pacific Highway north and south of the city will be managed and monitored closely as rally spectators and through-traffic merge during the rally.

Coates Hire Rally Australia Event Manager David Catchpole said the event traffic plan had been designed to minimise disruption to road users, while still ensuring the Coffs Coast hosts a world-class global sports event.

“This is a truly international event that will showcase to the world the Coffs Coast as one of Australia’s great destinations,” Mr Catchpole said. “However staging such an event will come with some disruptions.

“Public access to Harbour Drive will be reduced by the event, however we will ensure that managed access will continue to services such as schools, shopping centres and day care centres.
