VICTORIAN driver Brendan Reeves is honing his skills for Kennards Hire Rally Australia by helping Hyundai Motorsport ‘s Hayden Paddon at next weekend’s Rally Spain WRC round.
Reeves and his co-driver sister Rhianon Gelsomino will work as a gravel crew for Paddon and co-driver John Kennard, driving just ahead of the field on Saturday’s and Sunday’s tarmac stages to check for any last-minute changes.
Reeves, a Kennards Hire Rally Australia Driver Ambassador, will do one pass of the stages in a road car just before competition starts.
His task will be to add information to the pacenotes Paddon and Kennard have written during reconnaissance this week.
The gravel crew’s notes are essential to the team so that they have the most up-to-date information about road conditions. Often gravel has been thrown onto the tarmac since the original notes were written, making the surface loose for the drivers.
After Rally Spain, Reeves will return to Australia to finish his preparations for Kennards Hire Rally Australia on 17-20 November.
Winner of the recent Lightforce Rally SA, Reeves has accepted the role of Kennards Hire Rally Australia Driver Ambassador to encourage fellow competitors to enter Australian rallying’s biggest event of the year.
“When I was asked if I’d like to be an ambassador for the event, I jumped at the chance,” he says.
“I’m really looking forward to helping promote the event and to try and spread the word about it on social media.
“Australia is extremely lucky to host a round of the World Rally Championship, with lots of other countries vying for the opportunity, so if I can do my bit to encourage more competitors and more spectators and help secure the future of the event in Australia, that would be great.”
